The Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery presents a retrospective of painter Gogi Chagelishvili’s work titled: “Soc-Art to Present Day.”

Gogi Chagelishvili was born in Tbilisi in 1944. He graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1971 and has since been engaged in active creative work: he specializes in painting and graphics, creating abstractions, collages, objects, and installations, and is also the author of several literary projects.

Chagela — this is the name by which he has established himself. Like all distinguished artists, he is simultaneously a representative of his generation of painters and a truly standalone creator. The works of Chagela are accompanied by the charm of the “secret of art.” The world experienced by the artist is transformed into generalized images and symbols, manifest in works created from different disciplines, genres, and a variety of mixed media.

The degree of generalization and the form of artistic transformation are diverse, but the vivid expressiveness is consistently strong. Gogi Chagelishvili holds his own unique artistic signature and a firmly established place within the Georgian art space.
